Surgical Technology Clinical I provides students with hands-on experience in a clinical setting, emphasizing the application of advanced aseptic principles and surgical case management. Students will participate in all phases of surgical procedures, including preparation, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative tasks, while functioning in the first and second scrub roles. This course fosters the development of essential skills such as surgical instrumentation handling, anticipatory actions, and effective communication within the surgical team. Students will refine their ability to ensure patient safety during transfer, transport, and positioning, as well as manage medications, specimens, and intraoperative monitoring equipment. Additionally, students will adapt to the dynamic operating room environment, apply critical thinking to respond to challenges, and demonstrate professionalism and teamwork throughout the clinical experience. This course prepares students to meet the demands of diverse surgical specialties with confidence and competence. Must complete with a B- or better.
