SUR 2140 - Surgical Technology Lab II Credits: 2 Lecture: 0 Lab: 60
This course comprehensively explores fundamental surgical technology practices and techniques, emphasizing patient safety, aseptic principles, and teamwork in the operating room. Students will learn to evaluate and demonstrate essential skills, including patient transport, positioning, and transfer; intraoperative case management; and end-of-case procedures. Through hands-on practice and critical analysis, students will develop proficiency in urinary catheterization, suture selection and handling, and the application of surgical instrumentation and supplies. The course also highlights integrating anatomical knowledge, safe practices, and anticipatory skills to ensure optimal patient outcomes in various surgical scenarios. Must complete with a B- or better.
