Occupational Therapy Assistant, AAS

Occupational therapy assistants, working in collaboration with and under the supervision of occupational therapists, play a vital role in helping individuals of all ages participate in meaningful daily activities. In this program, you will gain hands-on experience planning and implementing client-centered, occupation-based, and evidence-based interventions that support learning, social participation, and recovery from physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges across a variety of contexts and environments. You will develop the skills necessary to promote independence and enhance engagement in everyday life. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), and graduates are eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification exam.

Program Status: Professional Program Application 

Program requirements include the following:
  • Successful completion of BIO 1210, BIO 1211, BIO 1220, BIO 1221, BIO 2150, and HSC 1050 with a minimum grade of B- (2.7)
  • A minimum grade of B- (2.7) in all major courses (OTA) is required.
  • A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required for general education courses.

Prerequisite Courses - 28 Hours


Prerequisite courses must be taken prior to applying to the program.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E, Bethesda, MD  20814; phone: (301) 652-6611; web address: www.acoteonline.org. Students must have successfully completed all Level I and Level II clinical experiences and have graduated from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program to be eligible to sit for the national certification examination and to qualify for state licensure.
