Mental Health Counseling, MS

Students in this program study theories and techniques for working with diverse groups to address a variety of issues plaguing people’s daily lives. This program is a broad overview of the many facets of mental health counseling with exposure to community counseling, addiction counseling, career counseling, trauma/crisis counseling, and more. Students will complete both a counseling practicum and an internship where they will apply knowledge and skills of counseling and consultation theories and techniques to practice with clients in a supervised lab and gain community placement experience under the supervision of a licensed counselor.

Ammendment to 2025-2026 Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog

Effective 8/18/2025 the following course changes were made in the Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling:
Removed: CSL5920 Counseling Seminar I, 1 semester hour, CSL5950 Counseling Practicum I, 1 semster hour, CSL6010 Counseling Practicum II, 1 semester hour and CSL6020 Counseling Seminar II, 1 semester hour
Added: CSL 5910 Counseling Practicum, 3 semester hours
 
Removed: CSL6920 Counseling Seminar III, 1 semester hour and CSL6950 Internship in Counseling, 5 semester hours
Added: CSL6930 Counseling Internship I, 3 semester hours and CSL6940 Counseling Internship II, 3 semester hours
