Many doctoral students do not graduate in a timely manner after starting their programs. Withdrawal often occurs in the transition from coursework to the dissertation phase. Baker College has devoted considerable attention to this transition by scaffolding courses - from structured instruction to guided study, and to independent inquiry with mentoring. Based on this approach, the All But Dissertation (ABD) - Dissertation Track option is designed to assist students who have work-in-progress from a previous doctoral program (27 semester credits, including courses in statistics and research methodologies) at a regionally accredited institution within the last seven years of application. Individual learning plans will be developed based on the previous doctoral study. Generally, students can complete their doctorate in 1.5 years by earning 25 semester credits.
