Only 56% of doctoral students graduate 10 years after starting their programs. Withdrawal often occurs in the transition from coursework to the dissertation phase. Baker College has devoted considerable attention to this transition by scaffolding courses from structured instruction, to guided study, to independent and self-directed inquiry with mentoring. Based on this approach, the All But Dissertation (ABD) option is designed to assist students who have work-in-progress in a previous doctoral pursuit (32 credits) at a regionally accredited doctoral program, within the last seven years of application. Individual learning plans will be developed based on the previous doctoral study. In general, students can complete their doctorate in 1 or 2 years and by earning 28-semester credits.
