SUR 2030 - Fundamentals of Surgical Practice Credits: 3 Lecture: 45 Lab: 0
This course introduces students to the principles and practices of surgical asepsis, focusing on the critical role of aseptic technique in preventing infection during surgical procedures. Students will explore the foundational concepts of sterile technique, including proper hand hygiene, gowning and gloving, and maintaining a sterile field. Emphasis is placed on applying sterile techniques in the operating room thoroughly examining sterilization procedures such as autoclaving, chemical sterilization, and high-level disinfection.
Through theoretical study and case-based analysis, students will understand how to establish and maintain sterility throughout surgical interventions, ensuring patient safety and compliance with infection control standards. Must complete with a B- or better.
