ELM 3210 - Elementary Social Studies Methods

Focuses on methods of teaching social studies appropriate to P-6. Developing lessons, sequences and assessments to create learning environments that emphasize civic engagement through the integrated study of history, geography, political science and economics. Articulates research-based pedagogical strategies that support the major concepts and modes of inquiry (developing questions and planning inquiries, applying disciplinary tools and concepts, evaluating sources and using evidence; and communicating conclusions and taking informed action). Includes 24 hours of fieldwork in P-6 classrooms. A grade of C or better must be attained to complete the Elementary Education Program.
