ELM 1310 - Elementary Science I Credits: 3 Lecture: 45 Lab: 0
This course is the first of a two-course sequence that will focus on content knowledge necessary to teach elementary (p-6) science. Topics included in this course will include Newtonian mechanics, energy, heat and temperature, wave motions and sound, electricity, light, atoms and periodic properties, chemical reactions, water and solutions, nuclear reactions, the universe, the solar system, and Earth in space. This course will also include an integrated lab that will focus on providing students with opportunities to pursue inquiries into each subject area, while also developing their ability to identify appropriate lab activities that demonstrate concepts across varying domains of science. A grade of C or better must be attained to complete the Elementary Education Program.
