Affordability and Aid

At Baker College, we believe that a quality education should be accessible and affordable. With one of the lowest tuition costs among all public and private four-year colleges and universities in Michigan, it allows the dream of earning a degree to become a reality for students statewide. By combining career-focused education with these exceptional rates, we help ensure you are positioned for success without the weight of unnecessary debt.

By combining our low tuition rates and minimal fees with our generous financial aid and scholarship packages, we make college affordable. Here are a few example packages for undergraduate students*:

Student A - Pays approximately $2,220/year. Estimated cost for a 2026 Michigan HS grad with a 3.5+GPA and family size of 3 and income of $110,000, who qualifies for a Baker College Scholarship and Michigan Achievement Scholarships.

Student B - Pays approximately $700/year. Estimated cost for a transfer student with a 3.0+ GPA size of 3 and and family income of $60,000, who qualifies for a Pell Grant, BeFree Tuition Guarantee, and a Baker scholarship.

Student C - Pays approximately $700/year. Estimated cost for a student who is 5+ years removed form HS graduation with a 3.0+ GPA size of 3 and and a family income of $60,000, who qualifies for a Pell Grant BeFree Tuition Guarantee, and a Baker scholarship.

Student D - Pays approximately $0/year. A Michigan HS graduate with a 3.0+ GPA size of 3 and and family income of $55,000, who qualifies for a Pell Grant, BeFree Tuition Guarantee, a Baker scholarship and Michigan Achievement Scholarship.

*The figures represent 2026/2027 standard undergraduate tuition, technology fees, and financial aid packages assuming a full-time (credit hour course load). Additional tuition/fees may apply for students attending nursing, health science, culinary, or auto/diesel programs. There are many factors used to determine financial aid eligibility. The examples above are presented to provide an overview of various scenarios and do not represent all details for determination of eligibility, nor do they represent any guarantee or commitment of eligibility. These examples do not include federal work-study or federal student loan eligibility.

Scholarships and Grants

We prioritize making your education attainable by offering a wide variety of funding opportunities that do not require repayment.

  • Merit- and Need-Based Support: We offer institutional scholarships and grants based on your academic achievements and financial needs.
  • Federal and State Assistance: You may be eligible for grants from the federal and state governments or private organizations.
  • Explore Your Options: Learn more about how we can help you find the right opportunities on our Scholarships and Grants pages.
At Baker College, we view financial aid as an investment in your future success. We are committed to reducing financial barriers by providing funding opportunities that help you focus on your education rather than the cost of attendance.

Baker College Scholarship Programs

Our commitment to your future is demonstrated by our substantial investment in our students. We are proud to share that about 8 out of 10 Fall 2025 incoming Baker College students received a scholarship to help fund their education. These merit- and need-based awards are designed to recognize your hard work and provide the financial support necessary to reach your goals. Because these are institutional funds that do not require repayment, they directly lower your out-of-pocket costs and make a high-quality degree more accessible.

Federal and State Grant Programs

In addition to our institutional aid, Baker College participates in various federal and state grant programs to ensure a comprehensive funding package for our students. Grants are a vital part of making college affordable because, like scholarships, they are typically funds that you do not have to pay back.
  • Federal Pell Grant: A cornerstone of federal student aid, awarded to undergraduate students with significant financial need. At Baker, students who qualify for the maximum Pell Grant may qualify for our BeFree Tuition Guarantee and have all of their tuition covered by scholarship and grant funds.  Details are available at baker.edu/befree
  • Michigan Achievement Scholarship: This state program provides substantial support for recent Michigan high school graduates.  Eligible students can receive up to $5,500 per year.
  • Tuition Incentive Program (TIP): As a major state initiative, TIP provides tuition assistance to eligible students, further expanding access for those from diverse financial backgrounds.

Student Loan Programs

While we prioritize scholarships and grants that do not require repayment, we also provide access to low-interest student loans for those who need additional help covering their balance. We work primarily with the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program, offering both subsidized and unsubsidized options to qualified students and their parents. Our financial aid advisors are available to help you understand your loan eligibility and ensure you borrow responsibly to maintain your long-term financial health.

Tuition and Fees

At Baker College, we keep our cost low, and we believe in price transparency so you can make informed decisions for your future. Your tuition rate is based on your chosen academic program, and we are committed to keeping additional costs low by offering minimal fees.

We focus on what matters. Most students only see a standard Technology Fee on their account. While a few specialized courses-such as those in our Nursing, Culinary, or Auto/Diesel programs-may have specific course fees, we work to keep these exceptions to a minimum.

For the most current list of tuition rates by program and a detailed breakdown of fees, please visit our Tuition and Fees page at baker.edu/tuition. To help you plan for the long term, please note that tuition rates may be adjusted annually to ensure we continue providing high-quality, career-focused education.

BeFree Tuition Guarantee

Our signature BeFree Tuition Guarantee is designed to expand opportunity and remove financial barriers.  With our BeFree Tuition Guarantee, qualified undergraduate students can have their standard tuition costs covered! This opportunity is available to undergraduate students who attend on-campus or online.

Through this program, students who are eligible for the maximum Pell Grant can have their tuition costs covered for up to five years through a combination of scholarships and grants (note: tuition will be covered up to the standard tuition rate; students attending The Culinary Institute of Michigan, The Auto Diesel Institute of Michigan or College of Nursing Programs may be responsible to pay specialty program tuition costs that exceed standard tuition costs). Visit baker.edu/befree for full details.

Applying for Financial Aid

Navigating the financial aid process can be scary, but our advisors are here to help you throughout the process.  We encourage all students to complete the FAFSA as it is required for federal and state financial aid as well as Baker College scholarships.  We have developed a baker.edu/fafsa website to provide additional information on the FAFSA process.

The first step is to complete the FAFSA application by visiting fafsa.gov.  Be sure to include our school code on your application:  004673.
