General Information

History of Baker College

Founded in 1911, Baker College was established with a clear purpose: to provide practical, career-focused education that creates opportunity. For 115 years, the College has remained committed to helping students, whether just beginning their journey, advancing their careers, or returning to education, build skills that lead to meaningful futures.

Over time, Baker College has grown and adapted to meet the changing needs of students, families, and the workforce. The College expanded its presence across Michigan, developed programs in high-demand fields, and introduced flexible learning options, including online education, to support students balancing school with work and life responsibilities. This adaptability has enabled a wide range of students to pursue their goals in ways that fit their lives.

Today, Baker College continues to evolve while staying grounded in its student-first philosophy. Students and their families can expect a supportive environment, relevant academic programs, and a clear focus on outcomes that matter-graduation, career readiness, and long-term success. Looking ahead, the College is expanding opportunities for connection and engagement, including the introduction of intercollegiate athletics beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.

As Baker College reflects on more than a century of impact, its focus remains firmly on the future, helping students gain confidence, create opportunity, and move forward with purpose.

Online Learners

Baker College offers online learning designed to provide flexibility without compromising academic quality. As an early pioneer in online education, the College has been delivering online programs since 1994, building decades of experience in creating accessible, high-quality learning opportunities for students.

Courses are structured to support students who are balancing education with work, family, and other responsibilities, allowing them to make consistent progress toward their goals in a format that fits their lives.

Online learners are an integral part of the Baker College community. In addition to their virtual learning experience, students are welcome to visit and access services at any of the College’s six campuses, providing opportunities for in-person support, connection, and engagement when desired.

Online students are supported by dedicated faculty, Success Coaches, and a range of academic and student services. The online learning experience is intentionally designed to be engaging, organized, and relevant, helping students stay connected, apply what they learn, and move forward with confidence.

Through its online programs, Baker College provides an accessible and supportive learning environment where students can advance their education and prepare for meaningful opportunities, wherever they are.

Athletics

Intercollegiate athletics will be introduced at Baker College beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative is intended to enhance the overall student experience by providing additional opportunities for engagement, connection, and school pride across the College community.

Athletics are designed to complement the academic mission of the College, supporting the development of teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Opportunities for participation in intercollegiate competition will be made available to students, while broader campus engagement will be encouraged through attendance, support, and community involvement.

As Baker College continues to evolve, the addition of athletics represents a commitment to expanding opportunities for student involvement and fostering a more connected campus experience.

Home of the Baker College Bees

The Baker College Bees are more than a team name; they are meant to reflect the spirit and values of the Baker College community. Like a hive working together toward a common goal, the Bees symbolize collaboration, determination, and shared purpose. Contributions from students, faculty, and staff are recognized as essential to creating a supportive and driven environment in which individual efforts strengthen the whole.

As the Bees, qualities of resilience, focus, and forward momentum are emphasized. Whether in the classroom, online, on campus, or in competition, the Bee represents a commitment to growth, perseverance, and success.

Governance and Board of Directors

Baker College is governed by a Board of Directors that provides oversight, strategic direction, and stewardship of the institution. The Board is responsible for ensuring that the College remains aligned with its mission, operates with integrity, and maintains a strong focus on student success.

The Board of Directors establishes institutional policies, supports long-term planning, and ensures the responsible management of resources. Working in collaboration with the President and senior leadership, the Board helps guide the College’s continued growth and development while upholding its commitment to quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Through its governance structure, Baker College maintains a clear framework for decision-making and institutional leadership, ensuring that the College serves its students, employees, and communities effectively.
