History of social welfare in the United States. Basic concepts of social welfare. The profession of social work in historical perspective. Current trends and issues in social welfare and in the profession of social work. Explores the major theoretical approaches for helping people in need and the broad social policies that affect the development and delivery of social services. Students will examine advocacy work at all levels of society, focusing on the social welfare system within a global socio-political context.
